The Interfil Sludge Dewatering System and Its Benefits

13 Jul 2021 | Family

Waste management in urban settings is challenging due to infrastructure limitations. The imbalance between the increasing demand and limited supply of essential services has led to revolutionary innovations. Sludge dewatering systems are among the innovations developed to improve wastewater management in urban areas.

What Are Sludge Dewatering Systems

Sludge is a mixture of liquid and solid waste. Yet, treatment and disposal of the sludge mixture are costly. Sludge dewatering systems separate the solid and liquid elements of wastewater. Separating the two enables both compounds to minimize the cost and complications involved when transporting, treating and disposing of the wastewater.

After separation, the wastewater is treated while the solid waste is dried for incineration or disposal in landfills. This article is about the sludge dewatering system developed by interfil. Read on if you would like to know more about this system and its benefits.

Background of Interfil

Interfil is an Australian company that started as a family business in 1986 to develop domestic liquid filtration systems. Among the company’s first products was a coolant filtration system for the manufacturing industry.

The company expanded its services to address wastewater filtration challenges in the 90s. This led to the development of several innovations such as patent-protected centrifuges and multi-stage centrifugal blowers and exhausters. Interfil also develops revolutionary filter media technologies.

Today, Interfil is an international brand with clients in the manufacturing, construction, food and beverage and mining and extraction industries.

Interfil Sludge Dewatering Systems

Interfil has developed several wastewater management systems over the years. Interfil’s dewatering systems fall into two categories as listed below.

Interfil Sludge Dewatering Centrifuges

Interfil Vacuumatic Dewatering Systems

Interfil Sludge Dewatering Centrifuges

Interfil’s sludge dewatering centrifuges use the centrifugal force working principle. They separate solids from wastewater by spinning the mixture at high speeds, generating centrifugal forces of up to 3,000 gravities. These centrifuges have a processing rate of up to 4800 litres per hour powered by a direct driven heavy-duty induction motor. Interfil has three types of centrifuges as listed below

IC45-M Manual Clean Centrifuge

IC45-A Semi-Auto Clean Centrifuge

IC45-AV Fully Auto Vertical Clean Centrifuge

These systems range from manual to fully automatic solutions to suit varying budgets. As the names suggest, the IC45-M needs to be cleaned manually while the IC45-A and IC45-AV have varying degrees of automated cleaning capabilities.  Below is a list of the benefits of using interfil’s range of centrifugal dewatering systems.

The bowls are dynamically balanced to sustain smooth operation at 4000rpm

4 point isolation points reduce vibration, noise and imbalances during operation

Optional FDA approved coating for food-grade applications

Low maintenance due to no wearable parts

Interfil Vacuumatic Dewatering System

Interfil provides a fully automatic, continuous dewatering operation through its vacuumatic sludge dewatering system. In this system, wastewater is fed onto a conveyor belt fitted with a disposable filtration membrane. The system uses a vacuum producer to draw air from under the conveyor belt. This process forces the wastewater through the membrane leaving the solid waste behind.

The vacuum producer continues to draw air through the solid cake at increasing intensity until the solid residue accumulates to a preset limit ready for disposal. Below are some of the benefits of the Interfil vacuumatic sludge dewatering system.

Automation facilitates uninterrupted operation for longer productivity hours

Total automation eliminates the challenge of high operator costs

Compact design allows for easy deployment and installation

Interfil’s sludge dewatering systems are robust long-lasting machinery that is suitable for several heavy-duty applications. They are well known for producing cleaner water for recycling and drier waste that is safe for disposal in landfills. The company’s goal is to advance technology while improving environmental sustainability.
