Interfil Biofuel Purifier Solutions

26 Oct 2020 | Family

The adverse effects of global warming have promoted the use of renewable energy resources all over the world. The use of biofuels is one of the main ways to reduce carbon emissions in the transport and industrial sectors.

Fuel quality determines the longevity and overall output of internal combustion machines. Many industries use fuel purification systems to keep their engines free from impurities. Interfil is one of the leading suppliers of fuel purification equipment in Australia. Read on if you would like to know about the company’s solutions for biofuel purification.

What are biofuels?

Biofuels are renewable energy alternatives to fossil fuels. They are produced from organic matter like plants, oily seeds and animal fat. The two most popular types of biofuel in Australia today are Biodiesel and Bioethanol.

Biodiesel and bioethanol blend well with diesel and petrol respectively. These blends form cleaner fuels without compromising on power output. Varied blends of biofuel and fossil fuels can be used in regular engines with minimal or no modifications. This provides an affordable way for manufacturers to reduce their carbon emissions.

Overview of Interfil

Interfil is a technology company that was started in south Sydney in 1986. In its formative years, the company’s main focus was developing coolant filtration systems for the manufacturing industry. Interfil then expanded its operations to include wastewater filtration systems. The company added value by enabling its clients to recycle the water and dry the solid residue for disposal.

In 1998, Interfil diversified its operations further to incorporate new ideas and tap into the international markets. The company now supplies patent-protected centrifuges, filtration media, blowers, exhausters, biofuel purifiers and others.

Interfil Fuel Purfiers

Biofuels are produced from various raw materials and methods. This type of fuel can accumulate several types of impurities depending on how it is handled. Industrial operations can also contaminate biofuels.

Contaminated fuel can cause costly damage to the internal components of your engines. Below are the main fuel purification mechanisms that Interfil uses to clean biofuels.

Dieselcraft Fuel/Water Separator

Water contamination is a common challenge when working with biofuels. Water molecules in fuel exist in dissolved, emulsified or saturated form. Saturated water or free water is the most dangerous form of water contamination in an engine. It promotes the formation of rust and fosters the growth of bacteria in your fuel system.

The Dieselcraft fuel/water separator eliminates 100% of the free water in your fuel. It also eliminates up to 95% of other contaminants that clog ordinary filters. This purifier uses the principles of surface tension and residence time.

The fuel, water and contaminants all have varying densities and surface tension. This causes the fluids to form varying droplet sizes and separate when spread over a large surface area. Water and contaminants are drained from the bottom of the separator. After separation, the fuel is directed to a regular fuel filter for further purification.

Residence time refers to how fast a fluid flows through a system. Longer residence times support a better separation of fluid mixtures. The developers of the dieselcraft purifier take the following steps to maximize residence time.

  • Matching flow rate to the surface area
  • Using activated alumina made from aluminium hydroxide

Interfil also develops and supplies oil centrifuges to eliminate solids from biodiesel. These include the Interfil IC45 and the Dieselcraft OC50 centrifuge. Interfil’s dedication to improving the performance of manufacturing equipment drives the company’s innovative culture. Its R&D team is always hard at work to find new solutions for the industry.
