In this post, we’ll cover the basic functions of oil centrifuges before taking a look at the DieselCraft Cyclone series.
The purpose of oil centrifuges, as you no doubt are aware, is to remove contaminants based on particle density; this goal is achieved via an appropriate maximum number of passes hourly combined with maintaining oil flow efficiency to allow proper oil drainage.
With oil centrifuges, the oil centrifuge chamber powers at high speeds in order to filter between 2% to 10% of the total fluid volume at a time. The filtration removes both large particles and submicron contaminants, and the cleaned fluid is then returned to the sump. This process continues in a continuous loop.
Barrier filtration media remove and retain waste, which eventually causes buildup and reduced efficiency in the filtration system. But by removing contaminants from the oil while keeping the oil flowing, centrifuges wind up having fives times the debris storage capacity of any filter currently on the market. This cleaning efficiency translates into significantly fewer filters to dispose of and greater intervals between oil changes; the interval for conventional oil stretches to double and synthetic oil at least triple the time between oil changes as opposed to barrier filtration media.
Centrifuges fall into one of two categories: self-powered and powered. Self-powered centrifuges use the laws of physics and system pressure to perform the separation, while powered centrifuges use mechanisms such as pumps and motors to drive the centrifuge.
The DieselCraft Cyclone series is a series of oil centrifuges specifically designed to filter engine oil, waste vegetable oil (WVO), biodiesel and other contaminated oils. The series is consequently found in the automotive, food manufacturing, transportation and aerospace industries, among others.
The DieselCraft Cyclone series includes four models: OC-20, OPS-20, OC-50 and OPS-50.
OC-20: Self-powered centrifuge with a cleaning rate of 210 litres per hour (LPH) and a rotor holding capacity of 300 grams of contamination.
OPS-20: Powered centrifuge offers 100 PSI maximum continuous pressure and 1480 revolutions per minute (RPM), with a cleaning rate of 210 litres per hour (LPH). Includes a 1500 watt, 200L band drum heater and a maximum pump operating temperature of 90 degrees C.
OC-50: Self-powered centrifuge with a cleaning rate of 420 litres per hour (LPH) and a rotor holding capacity of 600 grams of contamination.
OPS-50: Powered centrifuge offers 100 PSI maximum continuous pressure and 1480 revolutions per minute (RPM), with a cleaning rate of 420 litres per hour (LPH). Includes a 1500 watt, 200L band drum heater and a maximum pump operating temperature of 90 degrees C.
