Conservation is important to a lot of us, but it’s not always considered as a business principle. Unless it can save money (or make money), many manufacturers and industry players are still not as concerned with the environment as they should be. However, the majority of municipal regulations require wastewater to be treated before it’s released into the sewer. This is because sewer treatment plants are equipped for organic waste disposal. They don’t have the means to break down industrial waste and chemical toxins.
At the same time, filtering wastewater might allow it to be re-used, reducing the overall cost of industrial water procurement. In this way, it saves money, which makes business sense. Once you’ve been won over by the environment’s side, you’ll be curious about what tools are available. Interfil designs, manufactures and patents our filtration equipment. We build locally but ship internationally. Below are some of our filtration options.
Vacuumatic sludge dewatering system
This device is suitable for industrial processes where wastewater is produced on a large scale such as mining or construction. It’s ideal for treating the groundwater from a construction site. It uses an automated system and a conveyor belt that passes beneath the water. Under the conveyor belt, consists of a large chamber of which is connected the Interfil Multi-Stage Centrifugal Exhauster, creating high vacuums that pulls the water through the supported membrane. This cleaned water is collected in a separate sump.
Meanwhile, the captured solid on the conveyor belt is dried further with the excessive squeeze generated by the vacuums and also fanned with the hot exhaust air, turning it into a dry block of waste cake. The cake can then be delivered to a landfill for burial or an incinerator for burning at extreme temperatures. The sludge dewatering system allows water to be recycled for other industrial processes if necessary.
Centrifugal cleaning devices
We offer multiple centrifugal filters based on the number of filtration cycles and whether the device is self-cleaning or manual cleaning. The main component of the filtration equipment is a spinning drum made of stainless steel. The wastewater is poured into the drum, and as it spins, solid particles are tossed to the sides of the drum while the cleaned liquid flows through to the centre outlet where it can be harvested and re-used or safely disposed of.
Sludge accumulates on the sides of the rotary spinning drum which is scraped off by hand or automated scrapers. Manual versions of the machine have to be stopped for the sides to be scrapped, while automatic self-cleaning ones have a scraping cycle that kicks in while the machine is still on, allowing continuous use. The result is a pasty product rather than a solid cake, so this device is primarily used for processes where solid waste is acceptable as a paste form. Some processes deposit the paste solids onto a shaker screen for final drying.
Extracting oily contaminants
Foreign materials in wastewater can be in the form of paste, solid waste, or oil products. To remove oily residue from wastewater, try our Oil Skimmer. It has a synthetic PVC belt attached to a pulley system. The belt is continuously fed into the wastewater, pulling floating oil towards it at the rate of 10 litres every minute.
The lower portion of the belt remains submerged in wastewater, while the top part passes between wiping blades that scrape the oil off and deposit it in a collection sump. The pulley is a vertical system, so you can arrange it to be as short or long as you want, depending on the type of wastewater you wish to clean. It works for cutting fluids, grease drains, and the wastewater collected after washing industrial machinery.
